Invitation

Integration in Education of Third Country Nationals

Closing Conference - Project IF 01 2011 - Għinni Nidħol

11th December 2012

Dolmen, Resort Hotel, Bugibba

The Foundation for Educational Services has the pleasure to welcome you to the Closing Conference of Project IF 01 2011 - Għinni Nidħol which will be hosted at the Dolmen Hotel on the 11th of December 2012. The Għinni Nidħol project, which is co-funded through the European Integration Fund for Third Country Nationals, aims to look into the educational needs of primary and secondary school students from third countries, and their integration in the schools and communities they frequent.

The main outcome of the project is a research study, undertaken by aditus Foundation, to gather comprehensive data on the lived experiences of Third Country students and their families within their school and the wider community in which they live. This research gives a voice to the target group and serves as a basis for future policy initiatives and services that may facilitate their integration in Maltese society.

The conference will present the key findings resulting from the project’s research. Participants will also be offered an opportunity, through themed workshops, to discuss recommendations as to specific programmes, services, support or campaigns that might be beneficial for the integration of these students. Policy makers, educators, NGOs and Third Country Nationals are invited to attend.

Participation is free. Those wishing to attend are required to register by sending an email to Ms. Josianne Vella on email: josianne.vella@gov.mt by noon of Thursday 6th December 2012.

We look forward to your participation,

Such a pity that the World AIDS Day Campaign 2012 Seminar notice was not posted earlier. I was at Msida at noon to-day and I would have attended had I known about it.

MMSA-SCORA will be hosting a World AIDS Day Campaign 2012 Seminar as one of the events on the COMORBIDITIES OF HIV & AIDS on Wednesday 28th November during degree plus hours 12pm-2pm in the Anatomy Lecture Room, Biomedical Department. The talks will be given by various professionals in the field.

This seminar is not only about increasing awareness but it is a way in which students gain an insight into the pathophysiology of HIV/AIDS and the Comorbidities associated to it. Education is key and this is the message we want to get across.

Refreshments will be provided on the day and an e-certificate will be awarded to the attendees.

Christmas Calendar Palazzo Falson Historic House Museum Villegaignon Street, Mdina tel: (+356)2145 4512 ▪ www.palazzofalson.com ▪ info@palazzofalson.com

The first event in our Christmas calendar will be about an aspect of the Maltese language that few know about: The seven consonants that went missing through the ages ! How do we know about them? Olvin Vella, who has specialized in the history of the Maltese language, will talk about these missing consonants and how they were traced through old writings from literature to court transcripts, and will allow us to hear what Maltese once sounded like.

The lecture will be held in Maltese and in Olvin’s own words: Kemm kienu jitkellmu Malti differenti! Ma tantx għandna dokumenti antiki bil-Malti, imma għandna biżżejjed biex inkunu nafu kemm-il konsonanti tlifna fi żminijiet differenti. Tlifna seba’ ħsejjes – tnejn biss salvajniehom fil-kitba: l-għajn u l-akka. Il-ħames konsonanti l-oħra nsibuhom miktubin fil-prietki u fid-dagħa, fiċ-ċajt u fit-tagħjir. Nhar is-Sibt, l-1 ta’ Diċembru, se nitkellmu kif tbiddel il-ħoss tal-ilsien Malti. Xi sentenzi li se jidhru fuq l-iskrin waqt il-preżentazzjoni kapaċi jdarrsu lil xi wħud minħabba l-kontenut tagħhom. Min huwa sensittiv għal ċertu lingwaġġ, mitlub jaqbeż din it-taħdita. Olvin Vella jgħallem l-istorja tal-ilsien Malti, l-Università. Editja xogħlijiet fuq de Soldanis u Vassalli, u jirriċerka l-istorja tal-eqdem kitbiet bil-Malti u l-formazzjoni tal-Malti Standard, dak li nsejħulu l-pulit. Huwa membru attiv tal-Kunsill Nazzjonali tal-Ilsien Malti.

The lecture will be held at Palazzo Santa Sofia (a few doors down from Palazzo Falson), Mdina on Saturday 1st December, 2012 at 10.30am. Attendance is free of charge. Seats will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
